Founded in 1979, Vanasse Hangen Brustlin, Inc (VHB) is a multidisciplinary planning, design, engineering, and consulting firm headquartered in New Engand. The firm’s projects include some of the nationïs most complex infrastructure and development initiatives. To ensure most effective and efficient delivery of these projects, VHB has relied on Microdesk for many years to provide strategic consulting, technology management, mentoring, training and ongoing project support.
VHB had been using AutoCAD Civil 3D on their engineering projects for a while, but were experiencing issues with having a consistent skill set level across their organization. As a large and growing company with over 20 offices nationwide, VHB needed a solution to provide their employees with uniform standards and practices for using AutoCAD Civil 3D that could be implemented consistently across all locations. However, given the costs associated with providing employees with training off-site, VHB sought a web-based solution that would reduce expenses and provide flexibility to train employees without sacrificing billable time.
Microdesk assisted VHB by providing a custom distance learning solution. The comprehensive training program combined video-based training support materials and live instructor-led web based training, customized to VHB’s specific standards and programmatic needs. The training was delivered concurrently to all participants over the course of six, 3-hour sessions. Following the training program, employees were provided ongoing access to rGuide digital support guides, as well as access to live support from Microdesk solutions specialists. By implementing Microdesk’s distance learning program, VHB was able to provide employees with consistent classroom-quality training from the convenience of their own local offices or homes, with little disruption to the workday.
Beyond the training program, staff also continues to be to leverage the Microdesk team for advanced technical support. VHB has also engaged Microdesk for multiple application development projects to customize and enhance their GIS-related service offerings.
