Microdesk's webinars are presented by our team of technical specialists, project managers, thought leaders, and industry experts. Most sessions are recorded and archived here. We post new recordings often, so check back here regularly to see the latest ones.

In addition to on-demand webinars, we host live webinars every week. All are free and open to the public. Click here to see our schedule of upcoming sessions.

Architecture

Revit Architecture 2009: What's New?

Building information modeling is revolutionizing the way designers create and exchange data. Join us for a first look at the new features and functions of Revit Architecture 2009, the latest release of Autodesk’s BIM software. Whether you’re a seasoned Revit expert, or new to building information modeling, this session is a good way to learn how Revit Architecture can bring efficiency and productivity to your design projects.

Creating Organic and Complex Models with Revit Architecture

You already know how to use Revit to model a straightforward structure - something with basic shapes and dimensions. But what about modeling complex and organic spaces that incorporate asymmetrical shapes, spirals, and other intricate geometry? It’s easier than you think. During this session we’ll look at existing buildings that are well-known for their unique geometry and space, and show you how to recreate them using the tools within Revit Architecture.

Building Engineering

Working with IFC in Revit MEP and AutoCAD MEP

Most professionals know IFC as a file format that enables designers to exchange data across various CAD and BIM software widely used throughout the AEC and FM industries. Today the IFC (Industry Foundation Class) framework is supported by most of the major software vendors, including Autodesk.

When some of your designers use CAD-based software, like AutoCAD MEP or AutoCAD Architecture, and others use BIM applications like Revit MEP, you can leverage IFC to improve how everyone collaborates throughout the design process. During this workshop you'll learn:

  • How to work with IFC files in Revit MEP 2009
  • How to export a building information model to an IFC file that can be used within AutoCAD Architecture or AutoCAD MEP
  • Best practices for working with the IFC framework

Structural Engineering

Revit Structure 2009: What's New?

Revit Structure integrates multimaterial physical and analytical models, providing concurrent structural modeling for more accurate documentation, analysis, and design. Join us for a first look at the latest release of Revit Structure, including:

  • new, improved and expanded content, including several non-standard joist girder types and sizes
  • easier 3D navigation with 2 new tools:  View Cube and Steering Wheel
  • new and enhanced functions

Whether you’re a seasoned Revit expert or new to building information modeling, this session is a great way to learn how Revit Structure can bring efficiency and productivity to your structural design projects.

Working with Extensions for Revit Structure 2009

Autodesk offers 20 downloadable, easy-to-use applications that add more tools and features to Revit Structure 2009. Join us for a one-hour workshop where you’ll learn which extensions are available, plus how to download and use them. We’ll go over the highlights of each extension, including those for analysis, reinforcement design and drafting, exchanging data between Revit and Excel, and comparing models.

General Design and Drafting

Using the Action Recorder in AutoCAD 2009

Looking for an easier way to write macros, scripts, and LISP routines? Check out the Action Recorder, a new tool available in the latest release of all AutoCAD-based products, including AutoCAD Architecture, AutoCAD MEP, Civil 3D, Map 3D and Land Desktop. During this webinar, you'll see how the Action Recorder can track a sequence of commands and compile them into a reusable macro that you can add to a Tool Palette or toolbar. While CAD users of all experience levels will benefit from this session, you’ll get the most from it if you’re already comfortable working with the CUI to create workspaces, toolbars, and menus.

Civil Engineering and Surveying

Surface Modeling with Civil 3D 2009 and Google Earth

Surface modeling is a task that most engineers and surveyors tackle with every project. As new versions of Civil 3D are released, the tools for creating a surface become more refined and easier to use, and they also extend what can be done with surface data. Join us for a closer look at surface modeling in Civil 3D 2009, including some practical ways to incorporate Google Earth into common design tasks.

Geospatial

The Power of MapGuide: Distributing your CAD and GIS data over the Web

Your designers, technical experts, and analysts already know how to transfer GIS data to CAD, and CAD drawings to a GIS. They can easily get the data they need when they need it. But what if you want to make that same data universally accessible to the rest of the people -- planners, executives, financial experts, marketers, administrators, and field crews - in your business or agency? It is possible. They can view all of that CAD and GIS data directly from the web. The best part? You don’t need to be a web programmer to make this happen if you use Autodesk MapGuide. During this webinar, you’ll see:

• how MapGuide allows you to create a website with your CAD and GIS data, and makes it easy for anyone to publish CAD and GIS data to it.

• how MapGuide Studio, a companion product, lets you add your logo, colors, and other details to customize your MapGuide website.

This session will present real-world scenarios illustrating how companies and municipalities can make CAD and GIS data readily available via a website. Whether the concept of bringing CAD and GIS data to the web is new to you, or if you’re looking at possible ways to bring efficiency and transparently share data across the web, this session is a great way to learn more about Autodesk MapGuide for creating cost-effective, robust websites for your company or agency.
