Prior to starting my career at Microdesk, I graduated from Syracuse University with an M.S. in Civil Engineering and went on to receive a Ph.D. in the field as well. While I was there, I was a lead researcher for a USDOT funded project which focused on lifecycle benefits and cost analysis of infrastructural assets.
I believe the experience I gained through pursuing my Ph.D. equipped me with a strong analytical way of thinking which is critical to strategy planning, methodology development, and project delivery. Furthermore, the lessons I took in business school including risk analysis, business analysis and development have helped me better prepare for o ut-of-project challenges.
I started my career at Microdesk four years ago as a BIM Specialist. When I began at the company, I performed BIM management for a major civil infrastructure and government client on significant capital projects. Later I took on a new role as a Strategic Implementation Manager. I than moved to the Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) Team at Microdesk, working as the Assistant Director of the Strategic Advisory Service group. This position has allowed me to provide BIM/FM related expertise for governmental and private projects.
I chose to pursue my career with Microdesk as the company has shown to provide a dynamic environment for employees’ personal and career development. Microdesk is always shaping itself to prepare for the rapidly changing industry and to be ready to embrace all kinds of state-of-the-art technologies and concepts. All of these factors distinguish Microdesk from other traditional BIM consultant firms.
Today, I am now the Director of Digital Transformation. I will lead the company’s push to bring digital technology integration to all parts of clients’ businesses to ultimately drive efficiency, reduce environmental impacts and increase sustainability. Digital transformation means more than just digitizing business processes or adopting the latest and greatest technology for the sake of it. I am thrilled to lead Microdesk’s efforts to provide digital transformation services to our customers and support their success and growth.
One of my biggest career successes was working with a statewide civil infrastructure client’s EAM office to assist them in developing the Enterprise Level Asset Data Specification. I’ve had the honor of supporting the team by strategizing from both the project and business level—from forming a team of subject matter experts, setting up plans and goals, coming up with new ideas and initiatives and eventually creating a product and related workflow for governmental official platform and process.
I’ve grown a strong appreciation for the different areas I’ve dipped my toes in during my career thus far—including engineering design, BIM modeling and management, construction management, sustainability design, asset management, business analysis, financial analysis, and more.
If I could leave you with one thing from my experiences, it would be to push yourself to think outside the box as soon as possible.
As I have mentioned, I have seen how important it is to see the bigger picture from a higher level. For example, I’ve learned not to give a client a solution to solve their current problem but give them a solution to prevent this problem from happening again in the future.
