Implementing a Strategy for Designing more Sustainable Superstructures
Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF) is one of the world’s pre-eminent architecture firms, known worldwide for their supertower structures. KPF provides architecture, interior, programming and master planning services for clients in both the public and private sectors located in more than 35 countries.
KPF was serving as the lead designer of the Master Plan for Hudson Yards, a 13 million square foot new mixed use development on the west side of New York City, as well the lead architect for One Hudson Yards, the first building to be constructed. Faced with the challenge of executing a complex building design for a high profile marquee building, they were interested in identifying ways to more effectively coordinate the complex design and identifying design efficiencies, in line with their corporate mission to be leaders in sustainable design.
KPF engaged Microdesk to conduct an enterprise business strategy assessment and develop a complete BIM implementation strategy. Microdesk then provided a comprehensive rollout, integrating training BIM management, and staff augmentation to assist the project team with over-the-shoulder support throughout the adoption process. With Microdesk’s assistance, KPF successfully modeled both the architectural and MEP systems of One Hudson in BIM and positioned themselves as true thought leaders on the project team.
Now fully BIM-ready, KPF is applying their BIM expertise to other complex projects throughout the world.
