Meet Langlas & Associates

Langlas & Associates is a family-owned company supporting pre-construction and construction services as a general contractor since 1973. Their services range from planning and estimating through to value engineering and scheduling. Langlas recently sought assistance to fully leverage a 3D BIM environment during the early phases of the construction lifecycle to save the project considerable schedule time and construction administration.

Challenges

Microdesk was contracted to onboard and coordinate Navisworks Manage and Revit for use by Langlas internal staff and external subcontractors. The goal of the partnership was to provide Langlas with the tools and technical know-how required to execute complex tasks within a virtual space, streamlining physical construction, reducing change orders, and allowing for scheduling adjustments during construction.

Solutions

Navisworks Manage and BIM 360 Glue were employed for clash detection and reconciliation while Revit was utilized for 3D visualization between Langlas professionals, subcontractors, and Microdesk consultants. These platforms provided an insightful early stage of planning as potential issues were identified and adjustments could be made before construction began. To track and document the coordination process, Microdesk relied heavily on the BIM 360 Meetings, Issues, RFIs, and Submittals features.

Benefits

Langlas is now positioned to deliver construction pre-planning projects in a more seamless manner regardless of internal and external cross-team collaboration. Their teams can effectively reduce finding issues in the field and modifying systems on the fly as a direct result of employing BIM as the primary platform.

Prior to working with Microdesk consultants and Autodesk software, Langlas was balancing client needs with subcontractor resources and traditional design methods. The partnership with Microdesk has helped the Langlas and subcontractor teams identify issues and opportunities in advance within the model, which they feel will save the project considerable schedule time and cost down the road.
