Setting a standard for more efficient design
NELSON is an international design and consulting firm that offers a full array of facilities oriented services including architecture, interior design, strategic planning, engineering, and workplace services. The 20-location, 350-person firm is headquartered in Philadelphia, PA.
Despite winning multiple national and international awards throughout its 34-year history, NELSON lacked a signature drawing standard in client deliverables. As a result, the firm’s highly proficient team of designers and project managers were not able to follow a standard path, creating inconsistencies and inefficiencies.
Microdesk assisted NELSON in developing a firm-wide CAD/BIM strategy. With expertise in developing technology plans for the entire design process, Microdesk’s core solutions included master planning, standards development, staff training, support, and long-range technical planning. Leveraging these plans, NELSON successfully made the transition to AutoCAD Architecture & MEP and underwent corporate-wide training to increase understanding and adoption of standard steps and procedures. In a second phase, Microdesk applied the same approach to assist NELSON with making their next transition to Revit. As a result, NELSON now delivers its plans in one format and benefits from increased workflow efficiencies, more proactive reviews with clients and timelier completion of projects.
