Supersizing structural design capabilities with project-based training
Thornton Tomasetti is a leader in engineering design, investigation and analysis, serving clients worldwide on projects of all sizes and complexity. With a staff of 600 engineers and architects collaborating from offices across the United States, Asia-Pacific, Europe and Middle East, they have supported clients in more than 50 countries with projects that include the tallest buildings and longest spans to the restoration of prized historic properties.
Thornton Tomasetti was awarded the contract to provide structural design services for Kingdom Tower, a superstructure being constructed in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. One of the most compelling structural challenges of our time, the tower will be the world’s tallest building at more than 1,000 meters and serve as the centerpiece of the 23-million-square-meter new urban development known as Kingdom City.
Among the many requirements of this project, the engineering team needed to get up to speed quickly on the latest version of Revit Structure in order to meet the BIM design requirements. This entailed a custom program built around the specific requirements of the Kingdom Tower project.
Microdesk has had a long-standing relationship with Thornton Tomasetti. For this specific challenge, the Microdesk team leveraged their deep knowledge of the organization to create a custom two-day Revit Structure training program for the Kingdom Tower project staff to assist them in getting up to speed on the latest version of Revit Structure and address features specific to the Kingdom Tower project requirements. As a result, the team could begin applying their new technical skillsets directly to the project tasks at hand.
