Project Mentoring and BIM Management for an International Wastewater Engineering Firm
THE CHALLENGE: An international engineering firm based in Chicago that specializes in wastewater treatment plants, sought out Microdesk’s help to create and standardize new BIM processes. The firm was looking to transform and streamline procedures for projects within the civil, architectural, and MEP design groups. The firm’s biggest challenge was finding the best processes to set up their construction documents into a standard format based off of their Revit projects.
SOLUTION: Microdesk built a specialized, ongoing managed services plan that included onsite support for setting up Revit projects, and developing standards and custom content. The project support provided revolved around the development of process piping and accessories for wastewater projects. Microdesk also built a process that consolidated their standards and converted them into a single template that could be used for future projects. The client was also provided custom training to help them understand Revit best practices and procedures specific to their projects and workflows, leading to the successful implementation of a standardized workflow that could be utilized across the entire organization, significantly improving overall efficiency.
RESULTS: The firm has begun to utilize the process set forth by Microdesk and has been able to maintain standard procedures for current and future projects. The firm’s staff has also become more competent in using Revit efficiently, allowing them to better understand workflows and become capable of creating their own additional standards. These positive results has led Microdesk to maintain an ongoing partnership with the organization, and continues to provide support for a variety of projects and helping them understand new software tools and procedures.
